A picture-less post today unfortunately. The problem with photographing drawings is getting the right daylight (and overcoming laziness). So when the light’s good and I feel motivated I’ll post up the remainder of the drawings I’ve done to date.

Anyway, I recently received an email from Guy Noble, a practicing artist and the excellent tutor for an evening drawing course I did last year at Central Saint Martins. The email was about a new course on offer but since it’s during the day I would have to take time off work and as a contractor with no holiday pay that’s an expensive thing to do! So I might pass on this.

But I do recommend doing a short course if you want to learn how to draw. The course I did involved 10 x Wednesday evening session at the Back Hill campus of CSM. Although having class only once a week is not ideal, you can forget a lot in 7 days, the most beneficial thing about a course is being around like-minded people and going through the learning the process together. When you’ve been doodling as a solo and introverted experience, it’s refreshing to be with other closet artists. Plus receiving encouragement from the tutor or other students is also an instant boost to confidence and motivation. So although real progress comes from hours of practice, doing a short course with a good tutor provides crucial validation, because after all, you would only persevere with something if you felt that it was worth it.
